Multiple Items / Equipment Rental Wordpress/Magento System

Hi! We are looking to launch a rental site for everyday items that people will need. We will be starting with a relatively small inventory of perhaps 30-40 different items (i.e. board games, power tools, camping equipment, etc), but will be looking to rapidly expand this over the coming months. I would like to use Wordpress or Magento for the site itself if possible, and through a bit of research, I've found a few plugins out there made for bookings but didn't find one that covered what we would need. All of our expected bookings will be done for a pre-agreed and pre-paid amount of days, with a penalty charged for late returned. The one site I really like is [login to view URL] They're setup and display of products is very clean and easy to navigate. The rental integration is very clean and that is important. This is something that does not have to be built from scratch. It is ok if you recycle a calendar and add the functionality we need. The rental system would need to be handle management of all rental items, to prevent double booking, and process when items are shipped and returned. Please describe how you plan to implement this or if you have done similar things in the past.
