Opencart Journal Theme Custom Header

I'm currently running opencart 2.0.3.1 using Journal2 theme. I'd like to add some images to the header with links. I understand that core journal files may be written, so you would have to let me know which files were updated so that I can make the updates in the future, when I update Journal. Basically, I need to add two images to the right of the SEARCH and SHOPPING CART in the header.
