the first task is feasible and I already know how to do it, for the second I need to see how the images are getting loaded, the first idea that comes to me is to write a custom code so you can chose the image from the page edit area on the wp panel, but we need to discuss further about this in order to find the best solution and apply it. The first feature require custom php function code to be done, i will make it so while creating these posts, you will have an option to define external URL, which will than be a link to those posts feature image (taking users to external URL).
