This week marked the start of my official 12 week training before the big race. Talk about a kick in the butt! In anticipation of the tough workout schedule ahead, I have been slacking off the past couple of months – not exercising or eating well. Regret is setting in. Not only have my runs been difficult, getting into a healthy eating regimen has been almost impossible. I normally eat whatever I want, but after talking to a few workout buffs (runners and cross-fitters), I learned that eating well is part of the process. Running burns a lot of calories, so not eating enough carbs/sugars means my body will burn muscles instead; which is not good, obv. Carbs are normally a really small part of my diet. I don’t like bread or rice, and if I eat pasta, I prefer spaghetti squash. I also don’t particularly like protein, unless it’s fish. I love salmon but hate steak. Also, I eat WAY too much junk food, as you’ll see in my food log below (click on the image to enlarge). I’m not a quinoa-salad, calorie-counting, kinda’ girl. Looking back, I know I need to cut some of the junk and try harder to eat a good breakfast, but otherwise, I’m not going to stress too much about cutting the yummy stuff, like cookies and ice cream! On running days, I try to eat a carb and protein each meal; but because I’m a small person and can’t eat a lot, that means I can’t eat as many veggies/fruits on those days. On non-run days, I try to fit all that other stuff in.
