I'm not sure how much of this is possible, so I'll describe my ideal end solution and you can tell me how much is possible and we'll go from there.
First, here is the environment. Windows 2003 Server with Exchange 2003. Another Windows 2003 Server with MS SQL Server 2000. All clients are running Windows XP Professional and Outlook 2003.
We have a "group" mailbox where all support email comes into (i.e. service, help, sales). This is currently setup as a delegated user mailbox that all of the clients have access to. It could easily be switched to be a public folder if that helps.
When mail comes in to this mailbox, we would like to automatically execute a program that would get the senders email address and run a query against a customer table in our SQL server. If there is a match, it would get the customerID and insert the content of that email (date/time, subject, body, etc.) into another table using the customerID retrieved from the customer table.
At that point, the message would be moved to a subfolder called "Logged". If it does not find a matching email address in the customer table the message would be moved to a subfolder called "Not Logged".
It would be ideal if we could then have a method of specifying a customerID for any message in the Not Logged folder. For example, right mouse click on a message and click "Customer ID" and then displaying a dialog where the user could manually enter the Customer ID and have the message inserted into the SQL table.
