Hi, I have been in engineering for 40 years, 15 years in the UK-MOD - aerospace industry and 25 years in oil & gas industry. I served a 5 year apprenticeship in the 70’s with Ferranti-UK working on various radar systems packaging mechanical and electronic components. From the design brief you have put forward i understand that you would like an accurate 3d model done of the metal water tank incorporating all of the materials used in the construction of the tank. In my current employment i produce both manufacturing drawing for construction as well as general arrangement drawings for clients on a daily basis. The majority of the products i have to design, model, and draw all require general arrangement drawings, exploded views, and individual part drawings to enable the correct assembly and fabrication of the parts. These parts range from small hydraulic check valves thru to large 5t derrick cranes and everything in between. I use the latest versions of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Mechanical. To complete your required task i would start by building the 3D model based on the information provided by you. Once this is produced and you are happy with the result i would use the 3d model to produce a general arrangement drawing or number of drawings giving critical dimensions etc and also a cross section showing the construction of the water tank. A parts list can be produced showing the various materials used in the tank construction. After this specific part drawings can be produced as required. Drawings that are produced would be in .dwg format as well as .pdf. the finished 3D model can be provided in Autocad inventor assembly format with all the corresponding parts or any other 3d file format as required.
