I'd like to build a product that can listen to social postings (facebook, twitter, instagram, etc) in realtime and based on context of posts can possibly match to a possible direct to consumer product through the use of machine learning. An example would be someone posting about how bad their acne is and we can match to a facial acne product that could help. This is more than just an exact keyword match. We need to better understand the context of what they are doing, saying to provide proper recommendation. Finally, we would trigger a communication to them depending on what product/service we matched to and which social platform we found them on. Person would need in depth working knowledge of Facebook API, Twitter API, Instagram, etc. as well as machine learning techniques.

Yes we can do this. Currently we have producers and consumers listening to social platforms. These work inside a Hadoop ecosystem. For example we can store the processed data in MPP databases like Postgres-XL cluster. Use Apache Spark for processing real time data streams and apply ML algorithms that mine for example the affinities between a social activity of a person and their product preferences. Creating the features and training these models is going to be a challenge but achievable.
