(DOT NOT TRANSLATE THE INSTRUCTIONS JUST READ THEM CAREFULLY, THE SAMPLE TO BE TRANSLATED IS AFTER)
Instructions:
This is a dynamic website, and, some of the phrases take input from users (members). An example of this is the phrase bellow:
Hello %{name}, Welcome to this site!
Anything that is inside the symbol: %{…} should NOT be translated, but they MUST be in the phrase because they are symbols for the system to complete the phrase.
So, if my name is Paul, and, I sign up to the site with the name Paul, the system will replace %{name} with Paul:
Hello Paul, Welcome to this site!
A Portuguese translation to this would be:
Olá %{name}, Bem-vindo a esse site!
So, it is important not to omit the symbol.
Other examples of symbols are:
%{count}, %{number}, %{time} etc…
Some more examples:
This user has posted %{count} comments
- You can easily notice that the system will replace %{count}, with the quantity of comments that each user has posted:
This user has posted 3 comments.
Once again, we don’t know how many comments one user has posted. There are many users posting comments all the time. So the translation into Portuguese would be:
Esse usuário postou %{count} comentários. (The system will do its job and complete the phrase by replacing these symbols).
Another example with the symbol %{time} this time:
This user has posted %{count} comments %{time} ago.
This time, we have the symbol %{time} so the system will put a time as we don’t know what time, it depends on how many comments a user posted what time it was when the user posted. So if I post 3 comments and it was 3 days ago then the system will replace %{count} with the number 3 and %{time} with “3 days”:
This user has posted 3 comments 3 days ago.
In some languages, the word “ago” does not exit, or in some other languages “ago” comes before the %{time}, just like in French, so in French it is:
Cet utilisateur a posté %{count} commentaires il y a %{time}.
Please, remember place these symbols in the proper location in the phrase as some languages do not follow the same word order as the English language. Do not translate the words inside the symbol %{..}.
