Instead of writing an ERP system from scratch, I propose you to use an existing ERP system, but an Open Source one. That way, you will be able to modify every thing according to your needs but you don't have to re-invent the wheel: you will use the strong foundation of an existing and reliable software. Writing a complete ERP system takes a lot of time and effort ... I should know, I've done it 10 years ago. I would recommend to use Tryton, you may install it and start using it.
