You have been appointed by senior management as project manager for a key project within your organization. Your project board has asked for a project plan that will be used as a baseline against which to monitor project progress and to cost stage by stage. They are also concerned that all the key stakeholders should be identified and an appropriate plan formulated to deal with their expectations. The board has also asked that you fully justify your approach at each stage based on current best practice as indicated in the academic literature. For your chosen project you must provide: 1. 1) A project overview giving a brief background to the project objectives, the project scope and exclusions and the project deliverables and constraints. It is important that these requirements are well-defined and SMART characteristics identified wherever possible. You need to critically reflect on the importance of each of these concepts in project planning. 2. 2) A Work Breakdown Structure broken down by sub-activity to the level of work packages. It is important that key deliverables are identified for each stage and the rationale for determining the work packages explained. You will also need to explain why a WBS is important in planning and how it fits within the planning process. 3. 3) For one work package chosen from (2) provide a schedule for each activity using at least two appropriate techniques. You will need to explain the importance of scheduling in project planning and how you would deal with any slippage in the schedule. 4. 4) For one work package chosen from (2) provide an estimate of resources using appropriate techniques and a budget detailing the costs associated with delivering the work package. It is important to illustrate cash flow over the period of the work package. 5. 5) Provide a critical evaluation of your approach to this project including a justification of your choices of the techniques you have used.
