The project consists of two primary parts: 1) A browser plugin which can load and run a script 2) A javascript which can process the result page of a search the PubMed search engine The goal is to provide a user with a simple way (i.e. click a button) to parse the results of using the search engine. I.e. when the user has done a search in pubmed ([login to view URL]), he or she can then click a button and the search results are processed by the javascript. The javascript should use PubMed's built in functions to convert the search results to a machine parsable format and then pass the converted results to another script (which already exists). The browser plugin which enables users, when watching a given web page, to click on a button (or icon, link, menu item, etc) which causes the plugin to send the current URL to a web service (which is already functional, i.e. not part of the project). The web service responds with a Javascript (or link to one), which the plugin should load and call a specific function in. The search result processing script for PubMed should, when engaged on a pubmed search result page, should use the "Display" dropdown to select "XML". After reload, the search results are then shown in XML format, and each XML search result should be copied out and passed to an upload function in another Javascript. For testing, simply use a blank function which returns an OK code to simulate the upload function. You may also use the "SendTo - File" dropdown to retrieve the results. The difficult part of this project lies in interacting with the search engine website and setting the parameters for the search results such that they are displayed in a useful format, and then extracting the result data from the web page. Please make sure you familiarize yourself with the PubMed search engine before bidding on this project (e.g. by going to [login to view URL] and searching for "diabetes amylase" - you should get around 744 results). ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform The parsing script should run in IE and Firefox. The browser plugin should run in latest versions of IE and in Firefox - it can be to separate plugins with similar features. Programming languages should be C++ and/or Javascript. If anything requires compilation, it must be possible to compile in Visual C++ Express 2005 or in a standard Linux installation (i.e. gcc). No external libraries can be used - only those native to Windows (or IE/Firefox).
