AUTORUN PROGRAM ON USB DRIVE - TO MAKE A WEBSITE ADVERTISEMENT POP UP WHEN DRIVE IS INSERTED

Project Overview Our company needs to have two small programs developed that will assist us with advertising purposes. We distribute blank USB Flash drives to our clients. The first program we would like to have developed would be preloaded on these USB Flash Drives and set to AUTORUN whenever the flash drive is inserted into a computer. The sole purpose of this program is to make a website pop up automatically whenever the Flash Drive is inserted. The website will pop up in the computer’s default web browser. The web browser will need to open to a size of 515 X 475 pixels. When the browser opens, it must be “bare.” By this, we mean that the browser must not contain the navigation buttons, the address bar, the status bar, etc. As soon as the program causes the popup, it must immediately terminate. It is ESSENTIAL that program not cause any other disruptions to the user. For example, when the USB Flash Drive is inserted into the computer, it CANNOT cause any popup messages asking the user for permission to run the program, etc. The program must be written in a language that is extremely common, and that doesn’t require java, or any other “framework” to be installed on the computer in order for it to run. This program must also be able to run on any version of Windows. It does not need to run on a Mac. If the USB drive is inserted into a Mac, it can do nothing (hopefully it won’t give the user an error.) We also need to be shown how to change the URL of the website that the program pops up (so it can’t be buried too deeply in the code). The second program that we need to develop is called the “USB Service.” This program will run on the computers in OUR office. Its sole purpose is to keep the websites from popping up on our OWN computers should we insert one of our own flash drives. The “USB” service will run at startup on our computers. The “USB Service” must make a system tray icon appear when it is running. If the system tray icon is right-clicked, it will only give one option in the menu – “exit.” The program on the USB drives will need to automatically check for the “USB Service” on the host computer. If the “USB Service” is running, then the program will immediately terminate, without popping up the website. If the ‘USB Service” is NOT running, then the program will know that it is on a client machine, and that it is OK to make the popup open. After the popup opens, the program will terminate.
