Hi, I have a flair for English and have academic achievements in this regard. I am also zealous and passionate in writing and have been writing on and off. This is an excerpt of my business communication report on the obsession with beauty done a year ago.
The manifold implications of teenagers (certainly adults as well) being obsessed with beauty entail business, social, and cultural repercussions. In the corporate world, businesses capitalize upon the insatiable desire for physical flawlessness by the campaigning and marketing of beauty products and ideals, all the while masquerading money-churning motives as the sincere objective to instill self-assurance and confidence in customers. On the other end, customers are becoming increasingly exacting in their expectations of beauty products, perpetually sourcing and yearning for a non-existent beauty-miracle to their perceived physical shortcomings. A seemingly innocuous and natural desire to become more beautiful inadvertently swells into an idée fixe that consumes the individual with superficiality if left without retrospection. Their collective overzealousness for corporeal impeccability is not only senseless, but also erosive to individuality and the oft-underdeveloped virtues. The unwitting focus on physical aspects of oneself if left unresolved spawns self-absorption and neglect of character development, breeding a socially-apathetic generation bereft of sound moral values and positive qualities. It is unwise to disregard physical appearance altogether, and the cosmetics and beauty industry does benefit people by maximizing visual appeal. Nonetheless, anything beneficial in excess proves detrimental, ergo the inferiority complex or “never good enough” mentality engendered by obsession.
On a larger scale, society seems to be poised to plunge into the abyss of moral and social degradation, not due to beauty per se, but of which it plays a consequential role. It is both individual and social responsibility to become aware of the promulgating social phenomenon of beauty-obsession, and henceforth champion the worthy cause of promoting this awareness. Equipoise of emotion and thinking is key to averting and overcoming psychological issues and self-deleterious behavior. Our “New You” magazine endeavors to inspire teenagers and young adults to dare to be who they truly are – deep down. It is our aspiration to see to the spreading of awareness amongst youths with regard to this issue that is so close to heart, and henceforth undergo a renaissance of self-esteem; one that is bona fide and worn without farce or façade, ergo the birth of a “new you”.
