For over 13 years, I have been gaining tremendous experiences in the area of public education; five years as a teacher and eight years as an administrator. These experiences include improving public communication, outreach development to include all stakeholders, organizing and implementing programs, forming and chairing many committees to address vision and mission statements for long-range planning, and many more substantive opportunities for professional growth.
More specifically, some of my time was utilized for researching, trouble-shooting, organizing, and analyzing data in order to minimize time and resources necessary for continuing or restructuring programs. Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point were all used to create spreadsheets with graphic illustrations through slide shows and oral speeches, presentations, and dialogue to facilitate the process of program development and implementation.
The skills developed as an educator and administrator are wide in scope that cover from writing reports, speeches, and publishing articles to data procurement, committee development, and problem-solving on a broad scale. Additionally, my time was greatly utilized to counsel, conference, and find solutions to difficult problems for successful conflict resolution. I believe that these professional experiences have helped me to grow and mature providing skills that can be an asset for the elementary students and their parents, educators and staff members.
While an Elementary Principal with Muskogee Schools, I took a high risk school and worked with the teachers and staff to bring their overall API from the 479 to 940 within four years. The average free and reduced number was approximately 86% with a fairly even distribution of African American, Caucasian, and Native American students.
I am confident that my skill sets, abilities, and confidence can be a positive contribution and impetus for moving forward to discover student success as a team with professional educators.
