Hello, this tender concerns a fixed price that will be paid at the end without any renegotiations. Placeholder offers are not welcome. Please specify from the outset what the final payment will be for the following scope of functions.

Project Description:

I am looking for an experienced freelancer to assist me in configuring a Dell 3040 for my 3D printer project. The Dell 3040 comes with a built-in MMC storage and already has Linux Debian 12 installed. My goal is to mount the internal MMC storage as "read-only," use a connected USB stick as a persistent storage solution with an overlay root, and enable system access via Tmate.

Tasks: - Configure the Dell 3040 to mount the internal MMC storage as "read-only" and set up a connected USB stick as an overlay root for storing system changes. - Document all the steps taken so that I can reproduce them on a second system independently.

Requirements: - Experience in configuring Linux-based systems, particularly Debian 12. - Knowledge of setting up overlay root systems. - Experience in configuring and using Tmate for remote access. - Ability to create a detailed guide/documentation of the steps performed.

Payment Milestone:

Milestone (100% payment): Complete configuration of the Dell 3040 with "read-only" MMC storage, USB stick as an overlay root, and detailed documentation of the steps performed for self-reproduction on a second system. Please note that payment will only be made after the full configuration and documentation have been completed. If you are interested in this project, please submit your application and indicate how you can meet the requirements. Thank you in advance for your application!

Quote from a website describing the overlay root

With overlayroot, the *lower* filesystem is a read-only mount of the root filesystem, and the *upper* filesystem is a read-write mount of another block device. That block device can be `tmpfs`, a standard block device, or an encrypted block device (à la `dmcrypt`).

All changes made on top of the root filesystem are stored elsewhere and do not affect the root filesystem. Depending on the block device chosen, those changes can persist across reboots. While the root filesystem will not be affected, the view presented by OverlayFS will include any changes stored in the *upper* filesystem.
