Create Me An SVG Icon

Hi,
I have this svg of an umbrella I want to crop the handle of the umbrella out
leaving just the solid black top of the umbrella. I would then like to be able to
use the svg as an icon (ex: font awesome icons or other icon packs) that I can
add css and javascript animations to.
In the example I just used a simple css hover effect. *as you can see I was having trouble
with cropping and converting to an svg.
I just used the following code:

</svg>
in my html document *idk if you can recommend any alternative?
