Contest Brief

THE CONTEST TITLE IS MISSPELLED IT SHOULD BE ( LIQUOR WELL - SMALL PACKAGE SHOP).

We are opening a liquor store on the busiest street (Duval Street) in Key West, Florida. Key West is a historic town that is the Southernmost Island in the United States and most widely known for our free spirited acceptance of all walks of life. Our city motto is "One Human Family".

We need a logo created for our brand that will say who we are (a new liquor store that wants to look old/vintage), what we sell (liquor), and insinuate/sub-communicate the distasteful but hidden meaning of LIQUOR WELL (the act of "licking" in our imagery). We don't want to come out and say it, but our logo should sexually reference through imagery, insinuation and undertone:

--> "If you have a small package, 'Liquor Well' (lick-her-well)."

A great example of the business model of what we are marketing our subtle and distasteful undertone of our image after is "Big Johnson". The 1990s t-shirts were a hit because they were distasteful if interpreted correctly, but tasteful enough that the public could still where them every day. Please see the following links for "Big Johnson" T-Shirt samples:

Not often do designers submit scalable branding that covers business defining imagery within the text design, but I love when they can intertwine typography/iconography/subcommunicate alternative undertones/messages! We want to integrate sexuality subtly with the following imagery:

1. Old fashion wishing well, somewhat like -

2. A licking tongue, somewhat like -

3: Old fashioned subtle insinuations with vintage looking design:

Please see the latest comments - your #6 is in the lead currently, but others are extremely close to surpassing it. I very happy with your leading design - I just wish it incorporated some of the vintage imagery/typography/iconography I have linked in my recent public boards. Your tongued Liquor Well logo inside of the circle is the most scalable and versatile logo that carries our subtle undertone of sexuality with it. Maybe make the circle in your #6 design appear (1) to be more of a mouth or (2) make the well a character with a licking mouth & the tongue licking a female liquor bottle or (3) make a male liquor bottle character licking the well or (4) a male mouth licking a female well containing a wooden water bucket filled with more XXX liquor bottles {https://www.pinterest.com/pin/55521007880708444/} or (5) blushing female liquor bottles licked by the mouth of a cartoon well (give well a cartoon face, ref. cartoon trees in original mickey mouse cartoons).

Everyone is doing such a good job, so I want to give another hint to drive progress forward...we love it when typography, iconography, and imagery come together in the most flexible way possible. Think about how McDonald's "M" or Shell Gas Station uses the icon of the shell. Look at how Disney's first Mickey Mouse cartoons turns in-animate objects into characters (reference trees in this video and possibly turn the well with a licking mouth into a character - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_JUW2gTAKo)

For #28 : Tongue is hard to identify that it is a tongue...but this is my favorite design of yours and is closest to incorporating all the elements we asked for. I love that the tongue is below the pouring well - please see some of the linked vintage imagery I posted on the public board - I believe this will help you have a much more competitive draft if imagery and typography intertwined a lot more. ( #27 is not close at all to what we are looking for).

Some of the newer ones are getting so much closer to what we were going for, but creating a branded logo that is scalable and uses the imagery we described and gave samples of in our brief is not easy. Allow me to give you guys a hint: Think about the 1940s-1960s vintage bar tins crossed with the animated trees in some of the first Mickey Mouse cartoons. Now make the well into a cartoon with a mouth or make a mouth open with a tongue licking the well - might look cool! The only complaint I have is that many of the submissions look so modern and we are going for a vintage look since Key West, Florida is such a historical city - our liquor store is going to be across the street from (1) Sloppy Joe's [est. 1931] and (2) Captain Tony's Saloon [est. before Sloppy Joe's --> http://www.capttonyssaloon.com/]. Please also look at logo competition from the oldest bar in Key West, The Green Parrot [http://www.greenparrot.com/].

Liquor Well (Store Name), Small Package Shop (Descriptor) - please keep these on separate lines from each other. I really love some of the newer branded logos that were submitted but please understand that I want a scalable logo, but it should have pay vintage homage to Liquor Store signs and iconography of history (especially 1940s-1960s).
