Contest Brief

1 x children's book illustration which depicts the following:

A naughty 6-year old girl is found by her mother in the living room, using her paint-brushes and paint to paint pictures on the white living room wall (she had been painting on art paper on her small eisel which can be seen in the middle of the living room). The mother is very angry, shouting "Don't be naughty" as she sees the paint on the living room wall. It is important to to depict the cheekiness/naughtiness of the girl and the anger of the mother.

NOTE: The successful contest winner will be invited to undertake a separate project for all the remaining illustrations in the book, which will be an e-book with the following conditions:
- between 10 and 20 illustrations in all;
- Adobe Illustrator is the preferred format for illustrations
- some illustrations will be larger scenes (like this contest), while others will be smaller scenes or simply illustrations of the main characters close-up;
- the successful contest winner will be required to enter into a written agreement acknowledging the originality of their artwork and transferring copyright in the completed illustrations;
- the illustrator will be duly credited for the illustrations in any subsequent publication of the e-book;
- the estimated cost of the illustrator to complete the remaining illustrations will be a relevant consideration in determining the winner of this contest (although not the exclusive consideration)

The contest holder welcomes queries from interested contestants and will aim to respond within 24 hours of every query.

Is Adobe Illustrator the only preferred format for illustrations? Not Photoshop?

  Photoshop is acceptable. Please bear in mind that some layers will be needed in the the future project illustations which can be exported in PNG format

  We are open minded - but obviously it will be 'cartoon' like. The winning contestant's style will capture the cheeky nature of the main character (the 6 year old girl). If you wish to provide links to suggested styles, we are happy to consider them before you start and help to direct you.

  It is for one of the one-page illustrations (yes, it may be the book cover). Please read the brief, as the price for the remaining illustrations is to be negotiated with the winning contestant. I'm sure you understand that the purpose of this contest is to find the illustrator that we like, before we engage them for the remainder of the book. I hope this assists.
