A Practical Method for The Determination of Economic Insulation Thickness of Hot Water Pipes

A comprehensive mathematical model was constructed for the determination of heat loss characteristics of vertical and horizontal hot water pipes. The total cost analysis method was applied in order to define thermo-economic insulation thickness. Since the construction of the mathematical model is an elaborate and time-consuming process, a simplified empirical method, based on the mathematical model, was developed instead. The average accuracy of the empirical method was found as 99.36%.

Practical Method for Determination of Economic Insulation Thickness of SS, PPC, Cu Hot Water Pipes

Journal of Thermal Engineering
A simplified but accurate empirical method was constructed in order to determine the thermo-economical optimum insulation thickness of insulation materials that are applied to the hot water pipes. Different insulation materials, pipe materials, fuel types as well as physical conditions were taken into account. A comprehensive mathematical model was constructed for the validation of the empirical method. The average accuracy of the proposed empirical method was calculated as 91.4%.
