Qualifications

Professional Doctorate in Engineering

Technische Universiteit Eindhoven
2006
Professional Doctorate in Engineering. Technological Designer. Mathematics for Industry. The Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) is a Dutch degree awarded to graduates of engineering programs that develop their students' capabilities to work within a professional context. These programs focus on applied techniques in their respective engineering fields. Mathematics for Industry An industrial mathematician is able to detect where and when mathematical expertise is needed, knows how to become and stay involved, possesses modeling skills to solve problems from practice, and is open to the world of external mathematical knowledge. The industrial mathematician cannot rely on mathematical expertise only. The ability to communicate with team members, make decisions, negotiate and persuade are just as crucial for optimal functioning in an industrial environment. The industrial mathematician uses mathematics as a tool to come to a desired solution. The contribution of the industrial mathematician is seldom a purely mathematical one and always put into the context of another field.

Homogenization of spectral problems in bounded domains with doubly high contrasts

Networks and Heterogeneous Media V. 3, 3 (2008): 413-436.
Homogenization of a spectral problem in a bounded domain with a high contrast in both stiffness and density is considered. For a special critical scaling, two-scale asymptotic expansions for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions are constructed. Two-scale limit equations are derived and relate to certain non-standard self-adjoint operators. In particular they explicitly display the first two terms in the asymptotic expansion for the eigenvalues, with a surprising bound for the error of order epsilon^{5/4} proved.

Drill Surveying Algorithms: Three-Dimensional Drill Planning, Dead-Reckoning and Guiding. Report.

Eindhoven: Stan Ackermans Instituut 2006
ISBN 90-444-0666-3 / ISBN 978-90-444-0666-5, 188 p. This report of industrial project contains: 1. Mathematical modeling and mathematical analysis of drill surveying algorithms used for horizontal directional drilling. 2. Drill trajectory modeling and planning, design of actual drilling trajectory based on orientational measurements. 3. Mathematical modeling of guiding process. 4. Developing new algorithms and strategy for optimal planning. 5. Developing a concept as well as an application system, which wa
