Lead Java Engineer

We are looking for the right person to join our team in developing a new Core Platform, using Java 8 technologies, supported by AWS platforms and features. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ROLE  Manage, lead and develop a small team of software developers, (adopting a “hands-on” approach).  Ensure development, required functionality and high quality of systems software is met.  Hoolah core system and integration systems, using Java frameworks and tools.  New web portals and systems developed using React framework.  Implementation of systems in AWS and its ecosystem.  Integrations with eCommerce gateways such as Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and others. ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or demonstrated equivalent.  Strong technical credentials, with at least 8-10 years’ experience developing software, primarily in J2EE platforms and technologies.  Hands on experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs and demonstrate using microservices software frameworks such as Dropwizard.  Very strong working knowledge of React.js and React Native, HTML 4/5, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, Relational and non-Relational Databases (such as MySQL and No SQL), API Development.  Familiarity with Amazon platforms would be of advantage.  Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.  Familiarity with technologies such as Kotlin would be of advantage.  Mature and process-oriented approach to software development an advantage. PERSONAL SKILLS  A strong desire to learn new technologies and keep up to date with the fast-moving changes.  You must be able to develop quality code in your own right – that is, be able to lead by example on a daily basis.  You must have a good idea for design and a great idea for detail.  You will be capable of growing - over time, you need to lead other people as the team expands.  Anticipate long-term issues and problems, but also build for the present.  Work independently but work within a team.  Startup hustle mindset!
