Create Windows application that uses OpenVDB to convert point clouds to meshes

Create a Qt application for Windows that allows the user to open a file containing points and associated normals and produce a polygonal mesh. Construct a Signed Distance Field using OpenVDB ([login to view URL]) from the data. Dimensions of the grid should be determined from the dataset. Grid resolution should be suggested by finding the point with the maximum distance to its nearest neighbor and using that distance. User should be able to manually override this value. The application should then call on the OpenVDB to build the grid and use the VolumeToMesh capablity to produce the polygonal mesh. The mesh should be written to disk in a standard file format such as Wavefront OBJ with a filename obtained from the user. An important portion of this project consists of documenting the steps necessary to get OpenVDB to build on Windows with Visual Studio Community 2013 and/or 2015. Note that Windows does not seem to be a favored platform by the OpenVDB project. However resources such as [login to view URL] do exist. The documentation could consist of the CMake build system configuration (consider ExternalData and ExternalProject capabilities of CMake). The build system should be capable of using Visual Studio Community 2013. Bonus points: The application should display the resulting mesh in a 3d window and allow the user to inspect it to determine if it is of sufficient quality or if grid resolution needs to be adjusted to obtain the desired mesh. This display can be accomplished with an OpenSceneGraph display Widget that I can provide. The application should allow for adjusting grid resolution and obtaining a new version of the mesh.
