OVERVIEW
For the final group project, you will design and implement a database to support a web-based application of your choice. Optionally, you may also implement your application using PHP for extra credit.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Database design:
Create an E-R diagram for your entire database. Your E-R diagram can be hand-drawn, but it needs to be neat, clean, and professionally presented â NOT a sketch! See chapter 4 of the textbook for E-R diagram instructions.
Convert the E-R diagram into the relational database schema. There ought to be proper data types defined for each attribute. Primary keys must be defined for each relation. See page 26 of the textbook for an example of relational database schema. See section 4.5 (p.157) of the textbook for converting E-R diagrams into relational database schema.
Database implementation:
Use your relational database schema design to create all the necessary tables in MySQL database using the DDL of SQL. Create a file named [url removed, login to view] to document all the SQL statements you use to create the database and tables. Make sure all columns have proper data types. Primary keys and foreign keys must be properly defined on your tables. See section 2.3 (p.29) of the textbook for examples.
Populate your database tables using the DML of SQL. Create a file named [url removed, login to view] to document all the SQL statements you use to populate the tables. See section 6.5 (p.291) of the textbook for DML examples.
Database complexity requirement:
Your E-R diagram must have at least 5 entities, each with 2 or more attributes. The table that contains the primary content of your site must have at least 25 records. (For example, at least 25 books in a bookstore site.)
EXTRA CREDIT IDEAS
Perform functional dependency analysis and normalize your relational database schema.
Implement the website functionality using PHP and demonstrate the use of SQL queries issued against MySQL database.
