I'm looking for someone with working experience in either or both Microsoft Search Server and SQL Server features. If you are not familiar with both, let me know which are you are very familiar with and I will consider it. IMPORTANT NOTES: * DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU HAVE WORKED WITH IT OR ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH IT. I CANNOT AFFORD TO WASTE TIME ON THIS PROJECT. * This is not an immediate development requirement, well at least not fully. I'm more interested right now in information rather than actual development, so if you feel confident that you can still provide the information I require, that's fine, but again I would prefer if you were a developer who has dealt with both product preferably but if you only know just the one, let me know which and I will make a decision. * I don't just need someone who can pleasurize work from books or the internet. I need someone smart for this job and can judge what is worth mentioning or not, what is important or not, what should be confident to hightlight points that haven't been mentioned, and can provide intelligent suggestions. * Do not apply for this project unless you are fluent in english at least . Again due to past experience, I need someone that can express themselves clearly at the very least in writting, but preferly oraly as well if skype call or other is required. ## Deliverables As mentioned, this is not development requirement, well at least not fully. I'm more interested right now in information rather than actual development, so if you feel confident that you can still provide the information I require, that's fine, but again I would prefer if you were a developer who has dealt with both product preferably but again if you only know just the one, let me know which and I will make a decision. 1. Advantages/Disadvantages of MS Search and SQL Server Freetext, more specifically what features are supported by each and not by the other, which ones are common, cost, RAM usage, storage usage, filters supported, speed, Query Search support (VERY IMPORTANT), search relevancy (if availble), etc... 2. Supported Document filters by each. Which ones are included as part of software, which one are optional, and which one have a cost associated with it. 3. Explain each of the supported search type for each, and the options applicable to each search. For example in SQL Server freetext, you can add a weight on each of the keywords, so I want this to be one of the search features and explain about the weight, but you get the idea. I want to be able to compare which options will be provided by each product, which are missing and it will allow me to decide which product to go with. 4. Minimum requirements and cost involved. If the express version are suggested, I need to know about the difference between express and full version. Again, expand on the features provided in features vs full. 5. Installation Steps - Must be very detailed i.e. From setup, filter installation if required, IIS, etc... Anything that will be required to install either app assuming you have no knowledge on how to previously do so. I know that some filters come as standards but if PDF support is required, i know you need to get a filter.. .I need to know how to install the filter. The above must provide documentation on how to deal with it with the 32-bit and 64-bit version of the products and please do not assume they are the same as this is very likely not going to be the case. 6. Provide samples to try out as many of the available search features from either products. This is very important. 7. Specific: Our product offers customers the ability to store documents in either the database or in an actual physical file repository (Not MS Filestream!), so I need to know as well which products offer the ability to search and build their search indexes with documents stored in the DB, or in an actual folder (and sub-folders) or in both. This is a very important requirement as we will need to let our customers know which way to go. For example, we obviously won't be recommending SQL Server Express if you can only use the database to stored documents in order to use free text and they have a large document requirement but we might if they only need to process a 100 docs a months for example... Again expand on this point if you can and if you have suggestions, please let me know. Note that our documents, whether stored in the database or in a physical storage such as a hard drive are all directly linked to a unique document id. Again depending on the product, the available options, etc... We hopefully will be able to returned the documentid associated with each record returned matching a specific search and ideally the actual document # on which it is on. Note that we can associate multiple document to a single document id. Note that we deal with Tiff document as well and we'll look after the 'ocr' part and we'll be able to provide a textual form of the documents, but again recommend whether or not we should store this text file along side the tiff, or store the text in the database and leave the tiff in on the hard drive (assumingwe're not storing it in the db), etc... Development: This is a very overview only, but it will give you an idea. Once we have made a decision, we will need to create a .NET wrapper that will allow us to do the following: 1. Create an interface that will provide common options as we will probably create a factory component for one product i.e. SQL, or the other MS Search or both and we have a third-party product also in mind, so an interface will be critical here. 2. Create a factory based on defined interface where there will 1 be at least 1 core function i.e. search example: [login to view URL](....) 1. Input: i.e. We will need to pass the keyword parameters and provide an any additional options i.e. weights, boolean search, or other. 2. Output: This will return the data in a dataset, or xml or other. Not fussy on this one but what is being returned will be critical i.e. relevancy weight (if possible), title(?), short description, and a document id, a document # and/or a link. Any other useful information should be returned but you'll need to let me know which one they will be.. 3. This factory assembly will eventually be called from either a .net remoting or a WCF component but this will not affect you. Remember this project is about providing me as much information as possible on either or both products so we can decide which one to go with or even pick one and start using this first but with the idea that it will be eventually expandable to support the other or even a third-party software. We will of course need to all rights to all the code written. This will be posted as a second project unless we are happy to continue dealing with the same contractor. Thanks. Thierry
