I need to be able to sort tweets from handles I follow (or from one of my lists) by the number of times they've been retweeted during a specified time period. Essentially from a collection of tweets I need to effectively see which tweets have been retweeted the most.

Hello, There is no way to get more than 100 most recent retweets. So it can be impossible to sort tweets correctly in case of very popular tweet or in case of timeframe is in past. I can collect retweets in real-time for tweets that you add for tracing. It can improve accuracy. Is it ok if it will be implemented as java web app hosted in free hosting? There are Twitter API call limitations. You should know it will affect scalability. I have lots of experience with python. Every Ubuntu installation in the world uses a project I started in 2008 called Zeitgeist. It was originally written in python. I also wrote GNOME Music and GNOME Clocks in python, which are part of the GNOME project. This should take 2 days imho. I already wrote a similar script before that aggregates the tweets of people i follow and ranks them by most retweeted.
