A "Global Blockchain Congress" took part last week where an official of the European Central Bank confirmed his work on the digital euro. The Convergence took place in Malaga, Spain. As both a retail and wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC), the bank has explored it and noted that it has experimented with blockchain. The official ECB claimed that the digital euro was being worked on and several options" were being considered, according to Reuters. Convergence has seen companies and regulators convened between the Commission (EC), the INATBA and Alastria to discuss DLT and stablecoins. Two weeks ago a detailed plan for a 'crypto-based digital Euro' was released by the German Banks Association. Payment systems are already extremely efficient and, despite digital money used by the Nordics, cash is still used in Europe for 79 percent of sales outlets.  The Swiss branch will concentrate on CBDCs and Coeure is expected to accelerate operations. These new leaderships may signal progress sooner rather than later to BIS and the ECB on digital currency.
