There's a high chance that this is 'client side' thing(if the number of individuals affected is low), and not specfically to do with the server not coping with the load etc. Or it could be an 'imaginary' problem as well, so lets first see if there's indeed anything that would suggest there's an actual problem to solve. You know the dated of those reports, so could you forward the web server access logs from around those dates(+/- a day spread around each date) for close up investigation and also where I can find the game in question online to check the client side for any clues(I may even get 'lucky' and encounter the problem head on)? You say that this has been attempted by two other developers so if anything I'm about to write sounds familiar and like the others might have taken a dive down these rabbit holes then feel free to pass me by. My initial thoughts based on what you're describing make me think that I should put a lot of emphasis on profiling, finding slow points in the code and where the code relies upon your database; this would be my first step based on what little I know about your app, I'm assuming children's answers are being stored on your servers as the test is taken just based on how you're talking about it. If that doesn't yield the only other way I suspect I might find your bug is by looking at how your code plays with various browser setups, it might not be the app but the environment the app finds itself in. If that were the problem it would strike me as exceptionally odd though given this happens mid-test rather than straight away. If that second scenario is the case though, do you have any information about the conditions the test is being run under in the cases where it is freezing?
