Hello, I am Linux system engineer working with web hosting company from past two years and having knowledge of maintaining linux servers, security issue, software installation, server installation, DNS configuration & server migrations, Spam mitigation and DDOS attack prevention, Installing open source applications like red5, openmeetings, wordpress openfire, subsonic, etc. hosted on VPS or Dedicated servers, Installing, configuring, managing and troubleshooting Linux, WHM/cPanel Transferring accounts between servers when necessary for account upgrades using rsync, ftp, scp or via cpanel transfer, Implementing & administering various security and performance enhancements such as mod_ security, CSF/LFD, IPTables, etc, SSL setup for websites, Backup maintenance using cPanel or commands. security implementation. There is no simple way to stop DDoS attacks if there is small attack like for approx 1 gb then it can be mitigated by blocking the IP range which are attacking on the server but if the attack is bigger, you need hardware firewall at your server end. I can help you improve the security of your server, I propose you to allow me to perform these steps: 1.- Check and fix the hardening of your web server (based on international standards). 2.- Check and fix the security software already installed (maybe your proxy rules too). 3.- Install and set the appropriate software for your webserver in order to handle DDoS attacks. Hi, Protecting from a DDOS attack is not that of a big issue for someone who has done it before. The only option is to limit down the number of connections from one IP per second towards the web server to some sane value, for example 20 hits/s fromt he same IP address should be quite ok, and block the IP if the client exceeds it. I'd also do a security sweep to see if the intruder is not comming "from inside". Best Regards, Istvan

I am a senior network engineer and i can help you with this issue. According to your description the attacker can direct attack to your IP that means the server is exposed to internet and the traffic is not forced through the security system. This can be prevent by changing the routing or use on server fire wall. I need to know more about your structure so i can further help

Hello, I have 7+ years experience as a sys admin and a penetration tester, you can take a look at my linkedin and profile for my certifications and work. There are a couple of things you can do to protect your website from DDOS: 1. Get cloudflare, they are awesome, i have used them for many projects. 2. If cloudflare/other CDN solutions not possible, get a physical firewall/IDS/IPS, like cisco ASA 55xx series, i use them for a couple of projects and they are good. 3. There are no software that you install on your server to protect you from DDOS, thats because once the DDOS traffic reaches your server you will be using all the server resources to try and fail to stop the DDOS, the point is to prevent it from reaching your server. 4. Cloudflare with the right configuration can help you mask your website's IP, there are certain things that if not done correctly can render cloudflare useless.
