The reason this is happening is because of the number of posts that need to be searched. I would recommend switching to SwifType Search. It's designed to handle issues like this. I'm going to do some additional research on excluding image alt and title meta from searches. I'm not sure that is possible. But I will find out. I have 10 years experience developing with Wordpres. They use their own engine to index the site and serve up the search results. The built in Wordpress search can't handle the number of posts you have. That is why you are getting the error.
