Import Wizard for SQL2005 DB

The wizard will be standalone VB.NET 2005 application to be deployed using ClickOnce. The wizard will allow users to import flat files (such as Excel or delimited text files) into an existing relational SQL Server 2005 database through a step-by-step process that will prompt users to: 1. Select data type to import (e.g. Contacts, Organizations, etc.) 2. Select file type to import (e.g. Excel, csv, etc.) 3. Upload the file 4. Map the fields (e.g. “Surname?? in import file = “LastName?? in database) 5. Identify duplicate records (i.e. rows in the import file that match records already in the database and specify whether to ignore or update the record with the new values) 6. Map standardized field values (e.g. Country Values, Contact Function Values, etc.) 7. Link records (e.g. when importing Contacts, user would first run steps 4-10 to import Organizations and then run steps 4-10 again to import Contacts and link them to Organizations ??" the wizard would suggest obvious links and allow user to review as well as manually specify less obvious links) 8. Specify missing field values (each data type will have certain required fields ??" e.g. LastName and Country for Contacts. If these are missing from the import file, user will be prompted to specify values in this step) 9. Select Saved List name (imported records to be assigned a “Saved List name?? so they can subsequently be retrieved as a list in the application) 10. (2 import cycles: Organizations, Contacts) Phase 3: Importing “Securities?? (single import cycle) and “Holdings (linked to Organizations)?? (3 import cycles: Securities, Organizations, Holdings) Phase 4: Importing all other data types: - “Calendar Items (and Participants)?? (3 import cycles: Organizations, Contacts, Calendar Items) - “Portfolios?? (2 import cycles: Organizations, Portfolios) - “Holdings (linked to Portfolios)?? (4 import cycles: Securities, Organizations, Portfolios, Holdings) - “Notes?? (single import cycle) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
