First off let me start by saying a couple of things.
1). I'm not looking for companies or groups. I'm looking for individual developers that are available during US Business hours (roughly). All bids that are from organizations will be removed so please take the time to respond only if you meet this criteria.
2). I'm not looking for someone who wants to learn but has very few or none of the skills I list. I am a programmer and systems admin myself and will be 'drilling' you on your experience. I will find out very quickly if you will work out or not. Please only apply if you have the listed experience.
-- The Job --
I have an immediate need for a programmer skilled with Yii and with Wordpress. I am assisting a company with a) current bug fixes and improvements to a Wordpress based site and b). Moving all application work into a new framework to be used globally for several different apps.
I want to see how you will fit into this job by first giving you a 2 week trial period. If things work out during that period I will consider a more comprehensive contract. For the candidate I select this 2 week contract will of-course be paid as normal.
-- The Skills --
- GIT (Yes this is important. Git and SVN are not the same).
- PHP (OOP, MVC/HMVC, Framework usage)
- SQL (Standard SQL queries, ORM usage, understanding of the language)
- JS (JQuery - full understanding and experience, other frameworks helpful)
- HTML5/CSS (This is less important but you should still know how to fix issues and work with those)
- Linux (big plus for Linux users)
-- How to Reply to Me --
This is your first test. If you can simply reply to me with the appropriate responses and answers to questions, you've done better than 90% of the people that will respond to this ad.
Question 1). Do you work for an organization or are you a lone developer?
Question 2). Can you work during US Business hours?
Question 3). Do you have a Bitbucket or Github account? If so can you share with me your username so that I can look at public code you have?
Question 4). How many years have you been a developer? What's the project that you are most proud of?
Question 5). Explain to me a common Git workflow you have used.
Question 6). What is your experience with Linux? What Operating System do you currently use?
Question 7). How long have you used Yii? How long have you used Wordpress?
Question 8). Describe to me your local development setup (i.e. do you have an office at home, on a beach, on top of a mountain, in a office building ... what type of computer, what software, are there many people around you, what is the speed of your Internet connection etc....)
Question 9). What are 2 other jobs you've held that are not in IT?
Question 10). What are your hobbies?
Question 11). What are your goals for the next year? The next 3 years?
Question 12). Are you in school? If not when did you graduate?
Please note these are the only questions I would like answered. If you send me links to random projects, I will immediately remove your bid.
-- The Perks --
1). Steady full-time work. I have a lot of work and a lot of projects, but I don't keep people around that don't work hard.
2). Exposure to technologies and development methods that you likely have not used before.
3). Excellent pay based off of your location (I check your pay rate so be honest because I will know).
4). Time off when needed.
5). A fun environment of active and intelligent developers. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH CLIENTS!
6). A QA team to test your work and help you develop accurate specs.
-- Start Date --
As soon as the candidate can start. I will be conducting interviews over the weekend so if you apply keep your eye on your inbox. Please do not give me a start date of Monday if you have a project going on right now. I will find out and all you will do is waste my time and yours. Be honest and tell me when you can fully start!
