Blog about the pandemic - Madrid

Hi, my name is Victoria Olson and I'm from San Diego California. I live in Madrid, Vallecas to be precise. Vallecas or Valle del Kas is a working class neighborhood with fame of being a rough area. I've been living here since 1994 and it is a bit rough come to think of it. We have been quarantined in our tiny apartment since March 13th, only permitted to go out for food or medicine. The last time we left the house was on the 27th of March. We ran out of milk and cereals and had a strong desire to get more. Believe me, we don't want to go out. We are scared to death of catching the virus. My husband and I walked to the store about three feet apart so we wouldn't be breaking the rules and my son took a different route. We bent the rules a bit because we wanted to buy enough food for 2 more weeks. We will be in quarantine until April 11th. I suspect the quarantine will go into May. On our way to the grocery store, there was hardly anybody around. The store was pretty empty of people too. The clothing area was all cordoned off. I guess you can't buy cloths in a pandemic. Everything we could ever want was there at the store except for the cereals we liked. The toilet paper was stacked high in a very visible pyramid-like mountain showing us that there was no reason to hoard. Everyday at 7:59 Madrid starts clapping and making lots of noise in appreciation for what our health workers who are putting their lives on the line for us all. This is how I write.

I am currently in quarantine with my girlfriend in an apartment in Madrid. I´m an engineer specializing in business development and teacher. Among my daily activities is the drafting of documents, technical reports, articles of general interest and thesis tutoring. That is why I believe that I can bring value to this project, not only because of my knowledge in writing but also because I´m living this situation of COVID-19 with my family at home and I know personally all that this entails, especially because I live in one of the cities with the most contagious in the world (Madrid) and I find myself in the ability to give advice and observations on how to better handle this situation.

I think is important to share our experiences during this Quarantine that we are all living right now. We are all confused and a bit lost.

Hello there! My name´s Lucía and I´m a civil engineer eager to work during the lockdown! Unfortunately, the internship I was doing at a structural consultancy firm was canceled and I´m not able to work from home. So I think this job is just the right thing for me because I feel really motivated about it! Currently I live with my parents, so indeed it will be a challenge to describe how our thoughts and feelings evolve throughout these days.
