Transition from IPV4 to IPV6 by dual stack and tunnelling:
Background:
According to the technology development and the increase in the number of hard ware software devices day after day, is leading to the conception of current internet protocols version 4 (IP4) addressing scheme, IPV4 is uses a 32 bit addresses and operates on link layer network with a capability of 4.3 billion addresses, therefor the introduction to IPV6 became essential.
IPV6 was first introduced by internet engineering task force (IETF), when the exhaustion of ipv4 addresses occur, therefore over the next few years, IPV6 will take over the core network layer protocol IPV4. This will play a major role to the continued growth of internet.
IPV6 will promising enterprise and costumers with flexible next generation services, in term of scalability and lightness that they desire.
IPV6 not only contributes positively when deploying the network infrastructure, but also capable to reduce the network traffic conjunctions. Capacities and implementation of IPV6 will improve the network complications
Objectives:
The aim of this project is to deliver ipv6 packet over ipv4 by using a dual stack and tunnelling without significant change to the original networks infrastructure.
IPV4 and IPV6 feature
Resources will be use:
Library include:
Networking eBooks, web sides and cisco books hard copy
Hard ware include:
Cisco life Kits devices Routers, Switches, and PCs or laptop
Software include:
GNS3 emulator with cisco IOS images and Visio 2013 for network design
Deliverables:
A full in structure and descriptions on the following:
The history of both IPV4 and IPV6.
Dual stack and tunnelling concept.
The transitions process.
The performance of dual stack and tunnelling on IPV4 and IPV6 without effecting costumers on the origin network.
Dual stack and tunnelling mechanism, in term of plan and management.
A simple configurations of dual stack and tunnelling.
Explanations of dual stack and tunnelling test results.
Possibility of improving the networks traffic.
Conclude with the summery of the project goal.
