Create WordPress Membership Site

I need a membership WordPress site. I am a project management professional, and this site will be used as a place for me to post my articles, and to market my training sessions (to be conducted via WebEx). We will develop this site using the software development lifecycle as phases. First is Analysis. I need your technical expertise to work with me as we brainstorm all the necessary components. Eventually, this site needs to accommodate having paid members, to process the payments for membership, be able to issue refunds, an accounting system to track payments, etc. We will define the website infrastructure: what plugins do you recommend for a fully functional eCommerce site, to keep it running fast; recovery from hacking or site failures; how to defend against spammers, and web hackers; and anything else you can throw in.
