Business Applications Design

I am a seasoned IT executive with senior management/consulting/leadership in organizations ranging from startups to Fortune 15 companies. (See my profile here: adamcole.ca.) I have a stellar track record for building successful products and solutions which are used daily around the world. I am creating a new startup and I am looking for some killer talent. My initial project is to build a business utility app. The app is to be a context-aware to-do list / memory manager. The to-do list is a classic organizational tool. There are plenty of apps which provide to-do list functionality. Our tool will differ primarily by being context-aware. That is, any item on the list can be tagged with (1) a person, (2) a location, (3) a date/time, (4) an event. The app will consequently emphasis the relevant items. For individuals, particularly busy managers who must juggle a lot of tasks and remember a whole bunch of follow-ups, a universally accessible reminder system (to-do list) which emphasizes the relevant reminders is of tremendous value. Some examples: * I have a number of follow-ups with each of my reports (people who report in to me). I can tag each follow-up to the appropriate individual(s). Then when I meet with John Doe for example, I am reminded of all of the follow-ups specific to John Doe. * When I visit our Brampton store I need to remember to introduce myself to the new manager and also to look into why their hydro expenses are significantly above average. (These reminders are important to me when I am at the Brampton site and only when I am at the Brampton site.) * I need to pick up a PS3 game for my nephew's birthday and a toaster oven for the house. I want to be reminded when I pass an a games store or a home appliance store; however, if I pass an electronics store that is likely to have both, then the reminder should have even stronger emphasis. * Every time I give a public presentation in the spring I need to remember to talk about the launch of a new website. * Before going to the cottage I need to remember to pickup a generator. * When in Montreal I need to remember that my boss loves a particular local cheese. Example triggers for reminders would include: * Calendar events: people I am meeting with. * GPS: my location. * GPS: my heading (e.g. am I in the car heading towards a mall). * Calendar: Upcoming events (As I am driving between meetings do I have time to run an errand? As an event approaches, pre-requisite tasks becoming increasingly important.) * Email: Am I sending an email to someone with whom I have follow-ups associated * Proximity I believe usability is critical. In fact, I believe very strongly that this app as with most other applications, the user experience ultimately defines success. This is to be a free or nearly free app. The objective of making this app free is attracting business users. Subsequent apps will appeal to business users and will be premium mobility apps. (I have a number of concepts which take advantage of the newness of tablets and the corresponding gap in apps designed for true business productivity at the management level.) With this first project I am looking for that killer talent. You can demonstrate yourself be designing the UI / user experience / IA.
