database and regular-expressions processing

The starting point for this project is the simple database query currently at the website: [login to view URL] Screen prints are also attached, for easy reference. Your tasks for this project are as follows: 1. The [login to view URL] script (the item6 link) is heavily pattern-matching and regular expression based and only works in about 80% of the cases. You need to generalize and debug the code to make it work at least 95% of the time. By "work" we mean it will extract Item 6 from the file, as shown in the screen print and working examples on the site. 2. The scripts are very slow and consume a lot of memory. To improve performance, we want you to create a "batch job" which we can run overnight which will scan the database and pre-compute all the outputs for faster access the next day. Pre-computed outputs would include the 'Symbol' column, the Item 6 html, and probably you will need to add a "LastUpdated" field to the db to keep track which ones still need to be calculated. That's all. The project is not difficult or complex. The existing code is about 300 lines of PHP and 50 lines of Perl. We prefer to work with coders who are available to start immediately and who are not already busy with other projects, so, please indicate this in your bid. -------------- logistics ----------------- I will give you full access to the server, including files, database, and current existing code. Then you can work on either item#1 first, or item#2 first. For item#1, it's just regular expression debugging and trial-and-error. You can work on the server if you want, or you can download some files and work locally, and then test on the server when you are done. For item#2, the important part I need is to have a program that will run "SELECT (*) FROM database WHERE isNull(lastUpdated)" and process each file one by one. This is harder to develop locally because you would have to create your own copy of the database. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
