Display a mysql DATE (yyyy-mm-dd) as dd Month yyyy

My MySQL database stores dates using the DATE datatype yyyy-mm-dd I need to display the date on my site as, eg: 27th Jan 1985. If no dd or mm is present (eg: 1985-00-00) then it should display only the year, eg: Date: 1985. If no dd is present, but mm and yyyy are (eg: 1985-01-00) then it should display as: Date: January 1985 If no date has been entered, (eg: 0000-00-00) it should display text saying "Coming Soon". Whenever a year is shown I need an "a href" wrapped around it so that I can create a link myself later.
