Augmented Reality in Java

I am thinking of starting a Phd in Augmented Reality and would like to use Java libraries and make some reasearch. I am too busy doing 2 jobs, and would like to have some help and 1-2 people on board to help me. I need programmers keen with Java and AR. I was thinking of using NyARToolkit. I would like to hear some suggestions, get in contact with people with background in AR. I would like to discuss sub-projects that you could undertake for me, listen to some ideas. I could pay 100$ for small jobs, 200-300$ for papers etc. Right now i am willing to start researching with your help.. This will be a 3-4 year project and i could put 2.000$ - 3.000$ into it during this time. I'm an excellent buyer so this project is a bit serious. Provide suggestions, ideas etc, in order to start with small steps and move into bigger and bigger proejcts. We should write some code, do some research, implement improvements and ideas, and document them in order to publisize them.
