I'd like to develop a series of interactive activities for an online course i'm working on using php, html5, css and javascript - I'd like to stay away from using flash. this is one example of an activity that I'd like to develop to help me find a developer for the entire project. this activity is about helping students understand the basic principles of Ayurveda, for this example activity I'd like to use the principle of balance - Like (similar) increases Like. Unlike (opposite, dissimilar) decreases Like. I'm looking for a pleasing and creative design for the activity, drag-n-drop matching, visual/audio feedback for correct/incorrect answers, and hooks for tracking individual students progress in the activity. i have attached one possible idea/direction, see the png attachment. please email me with any questions you might have, i have left some details open so that you may showcase your creativity.

I'd like to develop a series of interactive activities for an online course i'm working on. this is one example of an activity that I'd like to develop to help students understand the basic principles of Ayurveda, for this project I'd like to use the principle of balance - Like (similar) increases Like. Unlike (opposite, dissimilar) decreases Like. I'm looking for a pleasing and creative design for the activity, drag-n-drop matching, visual/audio feedback for correct/incorrect answers, and hooks for tracking individual students progress in the activity. for the purpose of this activity you can assume that there is a database with a table for courses which has a list of student ids registered for the course and you'll be tracking if the student completes the activity in a table tbl_activity ------------ course_id activity_id student_id status (completed or not) datetime one idea i had was to have a scale, and have students drag and drop qualities on opposite sides of the scale, opposite qualities would balance when the answer was correct, another idea i had was to have the qualities randomized and then have the student match them up, please see the attached images for some ideas - i'm very open to other ideas, feel free to be creative. the activity includes the descriptive text as well as the tasks. ========================================================================================= Like (similar) increases Like. Unlike (opposite, dissimilar) decreases Like. If we can balance the imbalanced dosha, we can avoid major complications and move ourselves towards a balanced healthy state. For example, vata is dry and its natural home is the colon. But when it accumulates, it begins to travel around the body leaving traces and deposits until it resettles. The law of opposites is used to balance this condition of excess ---so vata being dry and cold, we would balance it with moist and warm. To find balance we need to become observant of the qualities within ourselves and the world around us. We also begin to look for the qualities of the foods we eat and the activities in which we engage. When we recognize what is out of balance within us, we can engage the law of similar and opposites to activate and increase the opposite quality of the imbalance and move towards a healthy balance. Activity: Here is a list of 20 fundamental qualities that according to the Charaka Samhita, we experience in everything. Charaka Samahita is the earliest of three Ayruveda texts (about 3rd to 2nd century BC) that have guided the ancient to modern route of Ayurveda. If we were experiencing an excess of the quality noted, what quality would we want to bring in to our system to help restore balance? Excess Quality Answers Hot Cold Heavy Light Liquid Dense Rough Slimy Oily Dry Stable Mobile Subtle Gross Cloudy Clear Soft Hard Sharp Dull (the questions below all refer to feeling lethargic and stuck, the questions are presented one at a time, and after student has chosen the correct answer another question is revealed) Q: If we were feeling lethargic and stuck, which two of the 20 qualities would these be most like? A: Dull and stable Q: what qualities would we want to emphasize to balance? A: Sharp and mobile Q: Which of these activities would be balancing (sharp and mobile)? Brisk walk - yes Racquetball - yes Lively conversation - yes Dancing - yes Reading - no Watching TV - no Observing the stars on a clear night - no Surfing the Internet - no Q: Which of these foods would be balancing A: Spiced foods - yes Meat - no Pomegranate - yes Banana - no
