we need a way to easily update a Firebird database at a customer site. We need some Delphi component that will: 1. read the database structure and build one ascii file. The file will store the structure of all tables and data stored in each table. Will list the generators and all generator values 2. the file will be crypted and compressed, so that the customer can easily send it to us by email 3. the same component (at our site) will be able to uncrypt/uncompress the file and build a new firebird database. This database will contain all tables and data stored at the customer's site 4. we will manually pump the containt of this database into the new database, adding all missing fields, adjusting data and generators, and (above all) all the new stored procedures 5. the component will read the new database and build a crypted/compressed ascii file. This time the file contains ALL database metadata AND data. 6. we send this file back to the customer by email 7. the component will connect to the local database, throw out all possible users (no idea how to get this), empty the database of all tables, procedures, etc and rebuild it with the file we sent. The source of stored procedures will be finally deleted . To my knowledge IBObject components can natively do 99% of the work. They extract data and metadata, but don't store it into one single file. Please see the features of IB_SQL: extract metadata, export data, etc. Also they do not natively empty a database and cannot set the database into single user mode. These will be the main points to solve. The expected declaration of the component is attached. The code will provide the code with a test application.
