A custom Palm OS application is required to automatically receive incoming SMS text messages and print them on a dot matrix printer (SP200). The custom application will likely be written in C++. An API (funSMS) is available that allows the custom application to easily send and receive text messages. The application will be used as a component of a conceptual artwork.
Please refer to detailed spec "[login to view URL]" attached.
----**Functionality**----
(Please refer to zip file for complete spec)
The Palm-based custom application will automatically obtain incoming SMS text messages and send them to a printer for output.
It should be possible to select which elements of the incoming message are printed:
- sender's number
- time/date
- text message (body)
It should be possible for the user to modify the printer setup by changing the initialization string.
It should be possible for the user to specify control characters to be sent before and after the message, and before and after individual elements. (example, line feed , bell and formatting codes.
The user interface can be rudimentary. For example, the user can specify initialization and control characters in hexidecimal if this simplifies the code development.
Once initiated, the application must run automatically and continuously until interrupted by the user.
It may be necessary to buffer incoming messages if messages arrive faster than the printer can output. This buffer might require space for 10 to 100 messages.
