ASP / AJAX Portal Website

I require a web portal framework to be built with user and group level persistance to MS SQL database. The portal will be written in ASP.net C# 2.0+ and make heavy use of AJAX. The framework is to be a configurabe shell that can be customised by group or user and contains multiple "widgets". Each widget can be self contained or can interact with other widgets. The book "Building a web 2.0 portal with ASP.NET 3.5" describes in detail how to create a very similar project.
