My PhD is in mathematical modeling of groundwater flow, so I am very familiar with the equations. Also, I am now teaching a graduate-level course in PDEs. One of the problems I lecture on and assign homework on is separation of variable solutions to problems where we decompose the boundary function into Fourier series of cosines.
