hi, I have recntly build a network monitoring system based on Nagios. Nagios can be used to monitor any device which supports snmp or even if the device/system does not support snmp and uses some other api , Nagios can be integrated with the api to get the status reports. for cisco devices it can even monitor changes in router/switch configurations as well. I have used Zenoss for several years. I use it to monitor Linux and Windows servers and our network infrastructure. I have several schedules and alerts setup to admins of issues using email and SMS via email. I currently monitor hundreds of data points on 80+ servers, 250+ printers, and 2000+ network ports. Assumptions: There is or will be a supported Linux server available via SSH. SNMP is correctly configured on the existing network. MIBs are available for desired monitoring, this is important if you want device specific information. Clearly defined alerting requirements. I can help with the above assumptions but there may be additional charges depending on the amount of my time used to correctly set up SNMP on your network.
