Hi, I have developed my own version of standby database program (no need additional licenses)such as this, but has few limitations. -Standby DB can be opened only in read only mode. -I have done only on Linux-Linux servers. But I'm sure I can do it on Linux-Windows servers as well.

I am a certified Oracle DBA for 10 years with total 12 years' IT experience. The last 8 years I have worked with Oracle apps 11i/R12, as a Apps DBA, familiar with Apps Architecture/Installation/Clone/patch/upgrade, familiar with Database Backup and Recovery/Performance Tuning/DataGuard. For your case, we can easily use dataguard to do replication if the new server is also linux OS, or use streams if the server is not linux. We can write a script to do the backup automatically. Hi. Without more details I can only assume that you are looking for trigger based synchronization. Cold data files are out of the question since you intent to move from one platform (linux) to another (Windows) and, unless you have Enterprise edition, transportable tablespaces is a feature not included in non enterprise edition. I did this before (I generated the plsql code) but some restrictions must be met: 1. All tables to be synchronized must have a primary or unique key. 2. Sequences can't be replicated so before switching from primary to secondary instance a script or stored procedure must be ran to update sequences. 3. Updates must be done only in primary instance. Secondary can be use for read only queries. 4. Triggers must be disabled on secondary instance. Same situation with sequences: triggers must be enabled at instance switch. 5. Of course both instances must be reachable via db link. If you have different idea on how to do this, please tell me. Regards.
