Crashing Tomcat application after installing updates

We are running a Java application on Apache Tomcat on Linux. Recently our server got hacked so we had to perform some updates of the server packages itself to prevent us from getting hacked again. After these updates our application is not functioning correctly anymore. After a user logs in the application crashes. I did not build this application myself so don't know where to look for a possible solution. Since the application worked fine in the past I expect it not to be related to the application itself. Looking for someone with experience in Tomcat application who can pinpoint and solve the issue on short notice.
