Design a Logo for the Victorian Historical Combat Academy

I'm starting an Historical European Martial Arts School in Australia, called the Victorian Historical Combat Academy. We will be teaching sabre, bayonet and other 19th century / Victorian era weapons from primary historical sources. I need a logo for the school that reflects (a) the main weapons being taught (b) the 19th century / Victorian era and (c) a steampunk aesthetic (which could be the same as the Victorian era). It needs to be old-fashioned rather than modern. The main colours are grey and maroon. I will need 2 versions, one incorporating the name of the school and one without. The logo needs to work on a t-shirt patch, on letterhead, on a website, on Facebook, on a brochure and on a stand-up banner. I have done a (very bad) couple of drafts (attached). The cogs/gears reflect the steampunk aesthetic, although I think the ornate gear (in VHCA Logo [login to view URL]) is too intricate to work as a logo. The text needs to be old-fashioned / reflecting the 19th century / steampunk.
