I have written a loose spec around a website I would like to have built. The website focuses around a daily writing contest where users submit their own writing and rate the writing of others. The website includes a forum, blog, and user submission area that allows voting (separate from the blog and the forum). Users can earn points by submitting writing and participating in voting on others work. A few tricky bits (to me at least): 1. Voting on a piece of work is only available for a set amount of time. 2. Items shown for voting on are presented in pseudorandom order based on how many votes they have received. 3. Users wishing to vote are shown a small set of writing and are not allowed to browse (to keep them from only voting on their favorites) - once a vote is received, the item is no longer able to be voted on and "unlocks" another piece of content for them to vote on if they like. 4. Scores and metrics are collected - rank of the piece, votes received, average score, submitters rank in the community etc. In other words, lots of little DB calls are made and historical data is needed.
I have design guidelines in mind (in the spec) but am not a graphic artist myself, and would like someone with an eye for design to improve on my ideas for layout. I imagine an open source or low cost forum and blog (both may be part of the same same package - you tell me)will be tied into a website that includes ajax or other fancy web designs to make user interactivity look good. Additionally, an open source DB will be needed for maintaining metadata for the forum, blog, and user writing, voting, reputation scores etc.
I am looking for someone who can architect and build the website. There will be some back and forth as design solutions are explored.
