Is the business of music changing and why?
It's not the music that is changing. It is the World that is changing. We are facing and Era of conectivity that is affecting almost every human activity in this century. The way we use music is also adapting to the new reality. First. Every song that has ever been written is now availiable for all of us to listen and not so difficult to download it for free. Second. The universe of music has expanded who knows how many times in the last few years, with the growing of sites such as myspace, pandora or lastfm.
While the "traditional" musician is still fighting for their rights over the selling of their music online, the new generation of them are taking advantage of this opportunity to become real big in a short time, and maybe get the reward later through concerts and merchandise. At least that's where the market seems to be going when we see the success of platforms like Spotify, where you can listen to all the music you want, legally, for free, and only having to listen to a couple of commercials.
