I need the coder to perform two somewhat similar but unrelated C/C++ experiments with the source code of two well-known Open Source packages. Experiment 1: Take gzip and modify the algorithm so that the hash buffer and maximum distance to prior string occurrence is expanded to 2GB from the current 32K. Experiment 2: Take bzip2 and modify the algorithm so that it can accept and correctly work with a block-size of up to 1GB, expanded from the current 900KB maximum. I call it "experiments" because the end-result is somewhat unclear in terms of performance and usefulness of these modifications. I need the coder to analyze that in the end (time, space, and compression-ratio performance of the modified programs, with some serious test data). In both cases I understand the compressed file format will need to be changed, for example to accommodate a 32-bit length in place of a 16-bit length in the case of gzip. That is fine. Only the modified utility needs to understand the modified format. This project will not have a deadline; the project will continue as long as you demonstrate progress on a daily basis or until the work is complete.

## Deliverables

Coder must provide daily status (except on weekends/holidays) demonstrating real progress toward the deliverables.

* * *1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows? (depending on the nature? of the deliverables):

a)? For web sites or? other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.

b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software? installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.

3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
